Boston hosted nearly two-dozen tall ships and naval vessels for the bicentennial of the War of 1812 in conjunction with Navy Week and OpSail Boston.
The most interesting vessel for Air Cache was the USS Wasp (LHD 1) the 843-foot amphibious assault craft that carries everything from helicopters to Harriers.
Recently, the Wasp has been conducting trials with the new F-35 Lightning II, but it was stripped of its fighters and docked at the Boston Fish Pier for public tours.
During a freestyle tour, we got to check out a landing craft, several vehicles, machine guns, small arms, and — most importantly — an MH-60 Knighthawk, AH-1W SuperCobra, UH-1N Twin Huey, and a V-22 Osprey (An M-V22 variant in use by Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 — VMM-162)
