Israeli Air Force F-16s attacked several targets in northern Gaza late Monday, injuring at least two.
The attack came in response to earlier rocket attacks on southern Israel by Gaza Strip militants, according to Israel.
Xinhua English reports that witnesses saw at least seven bombs fall at two sites known to be occupied by militants in both the northern and southern parts of Gaza. Loud explosions came next.
Witnesses told the Chinese news agency that the targeted sites were former security posts that were being used by Hamas militants.
Palestine information agency WAFA reported that two people were injured in the attacks.
Israel’s F-16 “Fighting Falcons” are American-built by General Dynamics. They are versatile, multi-role fighters with air and ground attack capabilities and a long track record. Israel second only to the U.S. in its usage of the F-16, with more than 200 ordered since the late 70s. The plane has been widely exported to American allies, including the Middle Eastern states of Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, the UAE, and Egypt.
