A small plane ditched in Bock Island Sound Monday after experiencing some kind of trouble. The pilot was rescued and is said to be doing OK.
A private boat plucked the pilot out of the water around 4 p.m. A Coast Guard cutter was also en route to the crash site.
The single-seat, single-engine plane was pulling a marriage proposal banner when it went down between Watch Hill and Block Island.
NBC-10 Providence reported that the plane had taken off from Westerly Airport an hour earlier. Several mayday calls went out over the radio before the plane crashed.
There is no word on whether the marriage proposal was a success.
