FRANCONIA, N.H. — Franconia’s tiny airport is little more than a patch of neatly trimmed grass, but that’s all you need to enjoy an afternoon of gliding.
Franconia Airport (FAA: 1B5) is two miles south of the small downtown section of Franconia in New Hampshire’s Grafton County. It’s primary function is to house the Franconia Soaring Association. The Soaring Association maintains a fleet of gliders, including a two-seat Grob Twin Astir, Pilatus PC-11, and Schweizer SGS 1-26 gliders.
The club offers scenic White Mountain tours, glider rentals, instructions, and glider towing for your own equipment. The club operates May through October.
No commercial or other flights operate out of the airport, but Air Cache spotted the club’s old Cessna O-1 “Bird Dog” and added it to our database.
