A Delta Connection flight from Norfolk, Va. to Boston landed safely at New York’s JFK International Airport Friday afternoon after an instrumentation issue caused the flight crew to declare an emergency, the Boston Globe reported.
Flight 4143, operated by Pinnacle Airlines for Delta, experienced navigation failure after a problem with an instrument and made the decision to divert to New York, Federal Aviation Administration Jim Peters told the Globe.
According to Delta, the flight was in a Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet. Pinnacle operates about 200 CRJ’s, including 142 CRJ-200LRs and 57 CRJ-900s.
The FAA fined Pinnacle $1 million last year for operating CRJs in 2009 and 2010 that were out of compliance. Earlier last year, the FAA also fined Pinnacle subsidiary Colgan Air Inc $1.9 million for improper training in the wake of the crash of a Colgan jet in Buffalo, N.Y., that killed 50.
